The final round game against current champions, Xewkija, was a must win game for them. It was also an important test for us as we will face them in the semi final of the GFA Cup.
The first half was well contested with the blues coming closest to scoring when a deflected Aji Adesina shot hit the post. But the talking point of the half came when Steve Dimech was clean through on goal with only the keeper to beat. It seemed clear that the chasing defender brought him down unfairly. The referee did not see it this way and allowed play to continue. Had the foul been given, it would have meant a red card for the defender also. It seems that these key decisions are not going our way this season.
In the second half, we can have little complaint as our levels dropped and Xewkija showed the quality they have, scoring 3 good goals. But the boys showed in the first half that we can go into the semi final with confidence, having probably been the better side for long periods of the game.
Next game is on Friday against already relegated St. Lawrence. We hope to see you all there.
