Our team succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to newly promoted Xaghra United. It was a balanced encounter and victory could have gone either way. In fact both teams had their good patches and missed some good scoring opportunities. Missing Joseph Refalo, Chris Sciortino and Simon Gatt our team looked a bit weakened and sometimes found it difficult to establish itself in midfield. At the back we lacked confidence and solidity. In front Edinson had a another good match and continuously put Xaghra rear guard under pressure. He was systematically fouled and many were of the opinion that Xaghra were lucky not to have one of their players sent off. It was a pity seeing Edinson limping out of the match in the last 8 minutes of the encounter. He will be a major doubt for next encounter against Xewkija Tigers.
As regards the match after a balanced first half our team took control of the second half and after missing a sitter took the lead through a magnificent piece of work from Edinson who went past two Xaghra player and with a shot in the high left corner of the keeper gave no chance for him to save. It was lack of tactical discipline that led to Xaghra equalizer. The goal was scored by Michael Bezzina. From that moment on the two teams battled it on for the winning goal which arrived unfortunately on Xaghra's side, courtesy to a fine header by Daniel Bartolo. Our team tried desperately to get the equalizer but unfortunately this did not materialize.
